Criminal Background & Drug Screening Checks
All healthcare students must complete a criminal background check and drug test before
starting the program. Texas House Bill 1508 says that students with a criminal background
might not be able to get a license in Texas after graduation. If students have questions
about their background or getting a license, they should talk to the program department
chair. Background checks and drug tests are required for all health science students
in clinical courses or practicums and might also be needed before joining the program.
Immunization Requirements for Clinical/External Learning
Students in San Jac programs with learning experiences like clinicals, practicums,
or externships must follow the immunization rules set by the site they're attending.
These rules are not made by San Jac. If students don’t meet these requirements, they
might not be able to finish the program or graduate on time. We do not handle requests
for vaccination exemptions. Students must contact the clinical or practicum site directly
if they have questions about getting an exemption.
